It is no secret that Virat Kohli is struggling to get runs, not just big knocks but runs that are expected from a top-order batter in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. As Kohli goes through probably the worst phase of his career, former teammate Yuvraj Singh has had a say on the burning matter.
Yuvraj has backed Kohli to come back stronger despite going through his second-worst IPL season since he made his debut in the format.
"Obviously, he is also not happy, and people aren’t too, because we have seen him setting bigger benchmarks, scoring hundreds after hundreds. But this happens to the best players,” Yuvraj told Sports18 in an interview.
In addition, he has suggested one change that can help Kohli turn this season around.
“Virat needs to become a free-flowing personality again. If he can change himself and be like how he was earlier that will reflect in his game. He has proved himself to be the best of this era and believes in a strong work ethic and that has brought the best out of him over the years," the ‘Player of the series’ of World Cup 2011 said.
Kohli has managed to score just 128 runs from nine appearances. He has registered 40-plus scores twice in the season but failed to make a mark in seven innings including two consecutive golden ducks.
He was promoted up the order against Rajasthan Royals (RR). Chasing a target of 145, Kohli opened the innings with skipper Faf du Plessis but it did not help him play a longer innings. The former RCB skipper got out after scoring just nine runs.
While many have suggested Kohli to take a break, Du Plessis has continued to back him. After dropping Anuj Rawat from the side and losing the game against Royals, the skipper explained his decision. He said that he does not want Kohli to overthink on the sidelines and get him into the action straightaway.
Kohli will have another change to regain form when RCB take on table-toppers Gujarat Titans on April 20 at Braboutne Stadium, Mumbai.
