Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) overseas all-rounder Daniel Christian and his wife Deanna Atsalas were on the receiving end of social media abuse after the team’s loss to Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 eliminator. Christian shared a screenshot of comments on his wife’s Instagram and messages from fake account in direct messages. Following the abuse, Glenn Maxwell put out a tweet as well criticizing the trolls. Now, the Bangalore franchise has come out in support of the Australian all-rounder.
“We’re 100% with you @danchristian54 and we will not tolerate online abuse towards players and especially towards their families and loved ones,” RCB wrote in a tweet.
“Winning and losing are a part of this beautiful game we all love. Our players put in the hard work day in and day out to reach the level they’re at. They give it their everything to try and win the game for us,” the franchise further added.
The 38-year-old had a bad day at the office as he was hit for three sixes by Sunil Narine in the middle overs which was crucial in deciding the fate of KKR’s run chase. The pacer was asked to defend seven runs in the last over as well but Shakib Al Hasan and Eoin Morgan got the team over the line with two balls to spare.
He did not perform well with the bat in hand as well, scoring just nine runs from eight deliveries. He did not have a great season either taking just four wickets from nine games and managing to score just 14 runs.
