‘We'll reflect on the small margins and look at the positives’: SRH skipper Kane Williamson after suffering 12-run defeat against LSG

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) suffered their second defeat of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on April 4 (Monday) after conceding a 12-run defeat against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

Batting first, LSG had registered a total of 169/7 in 20 overs. But in reply, SRH could only manage to score 157 runs losing nine wickets in 20 overs.

Williamson speaks

SRH skipper Kane Williamson felt that the partnership between LSG skipper KL Rahul and Deepak Hooda “was the difference” to take LSG “to 170.”

“Our powerplay bowling was good with three wickets. If only we could break the next partnership but credit to Deepak Hooda and KL Rahul. That was the difference to take them to 170,” SRH skipper Williamson said in the post-match presentation.

LSG had lost their first three wickets within first five overs of the match. But later, a solid partnership of 87 runs off 62 balls between Rahul (68 runs off 50 deliveries) and Hooda (51 runs off 33 balls) helped their side in avoiding the early danger. Eventually, LSG managed to post a defendable total of 169 runs in 20 overs.

SRH bowling

While talking about his side’s bowling, Williamson opined that “the guys with the bowling roles were good.”

“I think the guys with the bowling roles were good. Some key death overs from us too. They were arguably wanting a few more runs as well. A few ones and a few twos and the chase would've taken a different shape. The game is a game of small margins but we don't want to get too far ahead and try to look back on those good bits,” the Kiwi skipper said.

In reply, Rahul Tripathi (44 runs off 30 balls) and wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran (34 runs off 24 balls) tried to put up a brave show but ultimately it turned out to be inconsequential as SRH could only manage to reach 157 runs in 20 overs.

SRH skipper later admitted that they will “reflect on the small margins and look at the positives.”

“There were glimpses where we put ourselves in positions to get over the line with the bat, but wasn't good enough. It was a good surface. We knew if we can get some good partnerships, there was enough power in the hut. We'll reflect on the small margins and look at the positives,” SRK skipper explained.
