Rajasthan Royals' (RR) new star recruit announced himself as captain after taking over their Twitter account. Chahal, who is known for his social media posts, was involved in banter with the franchise's social media team.

Series of tweets

'Meet RR new captain," Chahal tweeted on March 16. In reply, skipper Sanju Samson said, "Congrats Yuzi".

After taking over the Twitter account, the ex-Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) leg-spinner also asked the franchise's Twitter followers whether he should open the innings with overseas wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler. He even called the Englishman “uncle”.

“10000 Retweets and He will open with @josbuttler uncle,” Chahal tweeted from RR handle with his photo while batting. The tweet also managed to get more than 10,000 retweets.

In addition, Chahal also put a tweet for his teammate Ravichandran Ashwin from RR account. “Where are you my love @ashwinravi99 no calls no texts koi or hai kya aapki life mein? (is there anyone else in your life?)”

He did not just tweet but sent a direct message to Buttler as well, saying, “Hi josh baby I love you so much”.

He shared a photo as well where the head coach Kumar Sangakkara asked him to get off Twitter.

What happened in auction

Chahal was roped in by Royals for Rs 6.5 crore after a bidding war with five-time IPL winners Mumbai Indians. Four franchises including Delhi Capitals (DC) and Sunrisers Hyderabad were interested in the leggie’s services. On the other hand, RCB did not even bid for the 31-year-old after releasing him last year. Instead, RCB splurged Rs 10.75 crore over Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga.

Chahal’s IPL record

Chahal has played a total of 114 games and has 139 wickets to his name at an average of 22.28. His best bowling figures of 4/25 came against Punjab Kings (then-Kings XI Punjab) in 2016, which was the same season when RCB reached the finals.

Royals’ 1st clash

The inaugural Indian Premier League (IPL) season’s winners, Royals will begin their campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on March 29 at MCA Stadium, Pune. RR finished seventh on the points table last season, just above SRH. After roping in several big names in their squad in the mega auction, RR will look to restore their former glory in this year’s 10-team tournament.
