In the eighth match of the ongoing inaugural season of the International League T20 (ILT20), Gulf Giants defeated Dubai Capitals by a comprehensive margin of 101 runs at Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah on January 19 (Thursday). The victory was set up perfectly by James Vince, who once again played a terrific knock of 76 runs in 48 balls with the help of four fours and as many sixes. With the ball, it was David Wiese, who ensured Vince's efforts with the bat yielded the perfect result.
Wiese, who was brought by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the mini auction for Rs one crore, delivered an incredible spell with the ball. After Vince muscled Gulf Giants to a mammoth total of 181/6 in 20 overs, Wiese along with Chris Jordan made a mockery of Dubai Capitals' batters.
Both Wiese and Jordan combined for six wickets, bagging three scalps each as Dubai Capitals folded for just 80 runs in 14.3 overs. Nine out of the 11 Dubai batters failed to even reach double figures while Dasun Shanaka top-scored for the side with 23 runs off 19 balls.
Wiese caught the eye of the onlookers by bowling in an immaculate channel and disrupting the flow of Dubai batters. The right-arm medium pacer ended up with sensational figures of three wickets by conceding as many runs in two overs. He registered a fabulous economy rate of 1.50.
Wiese, who now plays international cricket for Namibia, performed exceedingly well in two back-to-back T20 World Cups, first in the UAE and then during qualifiers in Australia. As a result, two-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions KKR forked out Rs one crore to acquire the all-rounder's services.
