Desert Vipers defeated Gulf Giants by 6 wickets.

Azam Khan's record-breaking half-century, achieved in just 18 balls, propelled Desert Vipers to a thrilling six-wicket victory against Gulf Giants in the DP World ILT20's 19th match at Dubai International Stadium. Khan's unbeaten 50 runs from 20 deliveries, featuring five fours and four sixes, combined with captain Colin Munro's 51 runs from 36 balls, ensured a win for the Vipers with 19 balls remaining. This win elevated the Vipers to third in the standings, while the reigning champions, the Giants, found themselves at the bottom.

Azam Khan exhibits power-hitting in Dubai

Khan's display of power hitting, marked by sixes off unconventional shots, captivated the audience and steered the Vipers to chase down the target of 161 runs in just 16.5 overs.

The Vipers' pursuit began cautiously with openers Rohan Mustafa and Alex Hales laying a solid foundation before Mustafa's dismissal. Munro and Hales then built a steady partnership, navigating the innings towards the target. However, the game's momentum shifted dramatically when Khan stepped in, launching his first ball for six and quickly overtaking Munro's score. His rapid scoring, particularly in the 15th over against Brathwaite, brought the required runs down significantly. Munro's aggressive batting further accelerated the pace, with the duo amassing 80 runs in just 34 balls for the fourth wicket.

Mohammad Amir leads the charge with the ball

Earlier, after opting to bowl first, the Vipers saw Gulf Giants' captain James Vince dismissed early by Amir. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, the Giants managed to post a total above 150, thanks to Hetmyer's late onslaught. The Giants set a competitive score of 160/7, thanks to contributions from Chris Lynn (31), Jordan Cox (26), and Shimron Hetmyer's quickfire 40 not out from 23 balls. The Vipers' bowling attack, led by Mohammad Amir's 3/34, and supported by Wanindu Hasaranga (2/15) and Matheesha Pathirana (2/38), effectively contained the Giants' run rate.

However, it was Khan's explosive batting that stole the show, underlining his growing reputation as a formidable hitter and securing a memorable win for the Desert Vipers.
