Aaron Hardie to Matthew Breetzke: 6 overseas players who can make IPL debut if prominent players don't turn up for remaining matches
Several overseas players who have been warming the benches or picked as replacement by franchises can make their debuts during the remainder of IPL 2025.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is set to resume on May 17. Several prominent players may not be available due to national commitments which may force franchises to trust in players who have been warming the benches or roped in as replacements of late.
Rajasthan Royals replaced an injured Nitish Rana with Lhuan-dre Pretorius. The 19-year-old has scored 911 runs from 33 games at an average of 27.60, including six fifties. His strike rate is 147.17. He has been roped in for Rs 30 lakh.
South African opener Matthew Breetzke was roped in for his base price of Rs 75 lakh by Lucknow Super Giants in mega auction. Breetzke has scored 2,783 runs from 106 innings at an average of 28.98, including 19 half-centuries. The wicketkeeper-batter's strike rate is 132.33.
23-year-old New Zealand middle-order batter Bevon Jacobs can make his IPL debut too. Jacobs has an average of 32.53 with 423 runs from 17 innings, including two fifties. His strike rate is 148.42.
Afghanistan's Sediqullah Atal was named as Harry Brook's replacement at Delhi Capitals. Atal has been roped in for Rs 1.25 crore. Atal averages 34.25 in T20s with 1,507 runs from 48 innings including 13 fifties.
Australia's Aaron Harddie was roped in for Rs 1.25 crore in the mega auction. The pace-bowling all-rounder has played 84 T20s and scored 1,464 runs at an average of 26.14, including six fifties. His strike rate is 130.71. With the ball, he has 41 wickets at an average of 27.43.
Mitch Owen has been roped in as Glenn Maxwell's replacement by Punjab Kings for Rs 3 crore. Owen was the highest run-scorer in BBL 2024-25. He has 647 runs from 31 innings at an average of 24.88 and strike rate of 183.80. He has two centuries in the format.
