In the ongoing only Test between Bangladesh and Ireland, Mushfiqur Rahim became the first batter to score a Test century against the Irish. Rahim scored 126 in Bangladesh's first innings and broke Afghan batter Rahmat Shah's four-year-old record of highest individual score against Ireland.

Shah missed an opportunity to score a century against Ireland in Dehradun. He scored 98 runs from 214 balls including 14 fours before losing his wicket to Tim Murtagh. England tailender Jack Leach also scored 92 while opening the innings at the Lord's in 2019. The left-handed batter was also dismissed by Murtagh.

In the same innings, Shakib Al Hasan scored 87 runs from 94 deliveries including 14 fours. After Bangladesh's top-order failed, Rahim and Shakib shared a 159-run partnership, the highest against Ireland in the format. The previous best belonged to Leach and Jason Roy. The English pair shared a 145-run partnership for the second wicket.

Rahim took 166 balls to score 126 runs. His innings was studded with 15 fours and one six. Ireland skipper Andy McBrine took Rahim's wicket. McBrine took six wickets to restrict Bangladesh's first innings to 155 runs.

McBrine's 6/118 is the best bowling figures for Ireland in the format. The previous record belonged to Murtagh who took 5/13 at Lord's to bundle out Joe Root-led side for mere 85 in their first match after ODI World Cup 2019.

After Rahim's 126-run knock, wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das' 41-ball 43 and all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz's 55-run knock helped Bangladesh post 369 on the board. In reply, Ireland lost four wickets for 27 runs in the last session of Day 2. Taijul Islam and Shakib opened the bowling and struck twice to push Ireland on back foot.

Earlier, Islam took five wickets for 58 runs to help his side end Ireland's innings for 214. Islam's 11th fifer included the wicket of former Zimbabwe international Tom Moor. Islam became the first bowler in Test cricket history to take the wicket of a batter who has represented two countries. Islam had dismissed Moor in 2018 when Zimbabwe toured Bangladesh for a two-Test series.
