Former T20 World Cup winner facing match-fixing charges in LPL banned from travelling outside Sri Lanka

Former Sri Lankan cricketer Sachithra Senanayake who has been charged with match-fixing in the 2020 edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) has been banned from travelling overseas by a local court in Colombo.
 

Senanayake is accused of enticing two players to fix games over the telephone. Senanayake has been banned from travelling for a three-month period after the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court ordered the Controller General of Immigration and Emigration.
 

The Attorney General Department obtained the court order. The department was instructed by the Special Investigation Unit of the Sports Ministry to level criminal charges against the 38-year-old.
 

Senanayake has played one Test, 49 ODIs and 24 T20Is for Sri Lanka. He made his international debut in an ODI against South Africa in 2012. He has 53 wickets in ODIs and 25 wickets in T20Is. Senanayake's best ODI performance of 4/13 came against England. He was a part of Sri Lanka's T20 World Cup 2014-winning squad as well.
 

He played Indian Premier League (IPL) for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 2013 edition of the tournament. He took nine wickets from eight games at a strike rate of 21.33. He was economical as well conceding runs at 6.53 runs per over.
 

His last appearance in competitive cricket was in Major League Tournament for Sri Lanka Navy Sports Club in October 2022.
