Former Indian teammates Gautam Gambhir and S Sreesanth turned up the heat in Legends League Cricket (LLC). Gambhir and Sreesanth were involved in a spat in the middle during the match between India Capitals and Gujarat Giants. As Sreesanth accused Gambhir of calling him a "fixer" and posted a video explaining his side of the story, the latter decided to use a photo of him smiling and a caption that indicated that the pacer was just doing it for attention.
Gambhir wrote in the caption: “Smile when the world is all about attention!”
After the Capitals' 12-run win over the Giants, Sreesanth recorded a video from the venue and posted on Instagram in which he claimed, “Without any provocation, he kept on calling me something which was very rude and shouldn't have been said by Mr Gautam Gambhir. I am not at all at fault, I wanted to clear the air straight away. The things he said on a cricket field live is not acceptable.”
On December 7 morning, he recorded a video and posted on Instagram giving details of the on-field spat.
"He kept on calling me on live TV, on the centre wicket, I didn't not use a single bad word, a single abusive word to him. I only said ' what are you saying?'" the 40-year-old said.
“In fact I kept laughing in a sarcastic way, because he kept calling me, ' Fixer, fixer, you are a fixer … f*** off fixer. This is the language he used on live. I just moved away but he kept on saying the same words again and again. I have no idea why he started it. It was the end of the over … no idea what made him say it.”
Despite taking the wicket of Rusty Theron off the penultimate ball of the innings, Sreesanth was expensive as he conceded 35 runs from three overs. On the other hand, Gambhir led the Capitals from the front scoring 51 runs from 30 balls.
Sreesanth was among three Rajasthan Royals (RR) players who were banned from all forms of cricket for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 spot-fixing scandal. However, the ban was later reduced to seven years which came to an end in September 2020.
