FOUR! Well played. Looking for a wide yorker, but Ashwani errs on the fuller side a bit. Overton reaches for it and glides it off the face of the blade past short third for a boundary.

WIDE! Slower bumper, dug in well short and goes away wide outside the off stump as well. Called a wide.

FOUR! In the air but through the gap as well. Slightly overpitched and angled across off, Jamie Overton smacks it through extra covers and picks up another boundary.

A big swing and a miss.

No run.

A very low full toss, angled into off, Sanju Samson slices it away to sweeper cover and picks up a single.

That's a gem of a delivery from Bumrah. At 141.2 kph and speared in at the toes. Kartik Sharma does well to get his bat down in time and jams it back to the bowler.

On the money again. Slower yorker now, on off stump, Sharma digs it back into the turf and the ball goes back to the bowler.

Oh, Bumrah's got away with one here. Juicy full toss, outside off, Sharma hangs back and throws his hands at it but slices it without any timing towards extra cover. Three dots in a row now.

OUT! CAUGHT! A terrific catch in the deep and Jasprit Bumrah gets a wicket off a full toss as well. Mitchell Santner is the fielder who takes a beauty in the deep and according to Danny Morison on air, this is Santner's 100th catch in T20s. Attempted slower yorker from Bumrah, ends up being a full toss on middle. The ball dips a bit while curving in and Kartik Sharma swipes across the line, hitting it flat towards deep square leg. Santner puts in a lunging dive and pouches it brilliantly with both hands. However, he seems to have hurt his shoulder while doing so. The Super Kings are 165/5 after 16.5 overs.

Full and straight, pace on, Jamie Overton walks at the bowler and hits it through covers for a single. Just two runs and a wicket off that over, top stuff from Bumrah.

Oh, that's nearly too high. Bhagat begins with a high full toss on middle, but it quickly dips on the batter. Sanju Samson is taken aback and manages to get some bat on it.

SIX! Whacked away. Pace off from Krish, back-of-the-hand slower ball, back of a length as well and outside off. Sanju Samson hangs back before clubbing it wide of long on for a biggie. 150 UP FOR CSK.

FOUR! Samson is showing his range here. A yorker now, just around off, Sanju Samson waits well and opens the bat face late to just glide it away through the short third region for a boundary.

FOUR! The bowler is under pressure here. Another full toss, angled into the pads, all Sanju needed to do was get a bit of bat on it and he does just that. The ball goes fine of short fine leg and rolls away into the fence.

A slower bumper now, aimed at the left shoulder, Samson just gets inside the line and angles the pull towards short fine leg.

Dug in short again, slower too and outside off. Sanju gets on his toes and taps it down to deep third for a single. 15 off the over.

Off break, short on leg. Kartik Sharma is rushed on the back foot and swats it to long on for a single.

In-angler, on a length, on leg. Samson hangs deep in the crease and knocks it to long on for another run.

At 87.3 kph, this is flighted full on leg. Kartik leans on and clips it through wide mid-wicket for a single.

Quicker, shorter, outside off. Quick hands from Samson too as he stands tall and cuts it to deep backward point for a single.

The leg spinner, full and dipping in on middle. Kartik Sharma gets forward and carves it back to the bowler. 

The carrom ball, neither full nor too short, on leg. It lands and turns in a bit. Kartik Sharma goes back and tries to nudge it around the corner on the leg side, but inside edges onto the thigh pad. Outstanding spell from AM Ghazanfar again. He finishes off with figures of 4-0-25-2. This is the fourth time in a row that Ghazanfar has picked at least 2 wickets in a game this season.

Pushes through, at 88.9 kph, full and on middle. Samson creates room and drives it along the ground to long off for a single.

 SIX! That's a glorious hit! Pitched into the slot from Santner, full and around middle and off. Kartik Sharma picks the length early, dances down the track, gets underneath it and lofts it inside out over widish long off for a cracking six.

Santner slows it up and drags the length back, at just 76.1 kph. Kartik Sharma cuts it to backward point.

A quicker one, flatter too, full on off. Kartik Sharma plays from the crease and knocks it back to Santner.

 SIX! Goodness me, what a hit! Tossed up, full and wide outside off. Kartik Sharma takes a big stride out, plants the back knee into the pitch and lofts it cleanly over the deep extra cover fence for a big six. Never an easy shot to pull off but the young man made it look ridiculously easy. This shows why he has been trusted by CSK. 

Slides one on middle, short in length. Kartik Sharma goes on the back foot and drills it to the left of long on for a single. Santner is done for the evening with figures of 4-0-44-1.

Slower and shorter, angling across off. Sanju Samson rides the bounce and dabs it to the right of deep third for a single.

 BEATEN! Zips through the deck at 133.7 kph, outside off, on a hard length. Kartik Sharma throws kitchen sink at it to play the square cut, but the ball nips away and beats the outside edge by a whisker.

 And again! Almost an action replay of the previous ball. Kumar angles the ball across the right-hander, but the length is a bit fuller this time. Kartik Sharma again prepares to cut it square of the wicket, but fails to put bat on the ball.

A shoulder-height short ball, Kartik Sharma stands tall and controls the pull shot to deep mid-wicket for a single.

This is turning out to be an excellent over from Ashwani. At 121 kph, short and outside the off stump. Samson aborts from the shot and lets it be. Fair delivery.

Pace off and short on leg. Sanju Samson gets across and forces the pull shot to the left of deep square leg for a single. Just 3 runs from this over. 3-0-22-1 so far for Ashwani Kumar.

Full outside off, Samson pushes it to the left of Hardik at cover. Hardik fumbles it, and a single sneaks through before the man in the deep cuts it off.

Dropped short, on off, Kartik backs away and steers it to deep backward point for a single.

Short, on off, Sanju punches it through mid off for a single.

WIDE! Flat and drifting quickly down leg. Kartik Sharma misses to pull off the back foot. QDK gathers it sharply to his left.

Closer to the off pole, on a length, on off. Kartik Sharma rushes on the back foot and knocks it to long off for a single.

Tossed up nicely, inviting the big shot, but Sanju Samson is alert enough to dink it into the mid-wicket gap for a single.

Again, slower through the air, full and on middle. Kartik Sharma leans forward and smothers the spin. Only 6 runs from Santner's third.

Oh, not far away from Santner. Short and outside off. Sanju Samson rises on the toes and square cuts it to backward point, where the ball just dips and yorks Santner who parries the ball to the deep for a single.

In the air... lands safely! Short again, on top of off. Brevis is rushed on the pull shot and plays off the top edge towards deep square leg. Naman Dhir loses the ball in the lights and stops his charge. It lands around him and he collects it on the bounce to his right. Just a single, but Ashwani is not pleased with that.

 FOUR! FIFTY FOR SAMSON! His 27th IPL fifty! He gets there in just 26 balls. A low full toss, hurled outside off. Samson extends his arms and slices the ball to the left of the diving backward point fielder for a boundary. Raises his bat calmly and gets back to face the next ball. 

Very full, on off, Samson heaves it along the ground to deep mid-wicket for a single.

 FOUR! Hurried him up but Brevis does well enough! Short of a good length, on middle. Brevis gets the ball at comfortable height and pulls it off the back foot, finding the fence at deep square leg.

OUT! RAMPED AND TAKEN! The plan to bowl short against Brevis reaps rewards for Ashwani and MI. Slower into the pitch, short and outside the off stump. Dewald Brevis hops in the crease and tries to ramp it behind deep third, but fails to generate that required power on the shot and airs it straight to Jasprit Bumrah at deep third. A simple catching practice for him. Chennai Super Kings are 122/4 as another batter departs after a start.

SIX! BANG! Floated up, a bit too full and on off. Dewald Brevis with a step-hit as he pumps the ball back over the bowler's head and picks up a six. 100 UP FOR CSK.

WIDE! Oh, that's marginal. Brevis backs away early and Mitch floats it well wide outside off, flirting with the tramline. Brevis lets it go and gets the wide call in his favour.

Dragged length around off, tapped away from the crease and through covers for one.

A bit more air on this one, floated up on a good length and around off. Sanju waits before punching it square through covers for one more. He moves to 48 now.

That's well bowled. Santner switches things up with a full and quick one at the toes. Brevis charges down the track to whack it leg side but nearly yorks himself as he gets an inside edge onto the pads.

SIX! That's outta here. Mitch slows it up again and floats it wide outside off. Dewald Brevis looks to come down the pitch, but adjusts well and reaches out before smashing it high over long off for a biggie.

 Slightly into the pitch, wide outside off. Left alone for a wide. This time MI do review it. The third umpire checks the replays and finds that some part of the ball is inside the guideline. It is a fair delivery.

OUT! BOWLED'EM! A massive wicket and AM Ghazanfar delivers yet again. Ghazanfar comes around the wicket to Shivam Dube and floats the ball in, angling it in from outside off. Shivam Dube has a big swipe across the line but the ball dips late and comes in, beating the bat and smashes into the off stump. Dube is generally so good against spin but he falls to a spinner and CSK lose their third wicket with the score being 91.

Back to over the wicket, full and just outside off, at a brisk 97.2 kph. Dewald Brevis backs away and cuts it right off the stumps to deep backward point for one.

Flatter delivery on the pads, worked away 'round the corner on the leg side for a single.

Flatter again, on a nagging length and on the pads. Brevis awkwardly jams it to the right of mid-wicket for one more.

Slightly floated up, on the pads again, dabbed away past square leg for yet another single.

Quick and short at nearly 102 kph, outside off. Brevis backs away and slaps it to deep point for a run. Five singles and a wicket off the over.

Banged into the pitch, at just 111 kph and angled wide of the off stump. Sanju Samson gets on his toes and taps it down to deep cover for a single.

Oh, that's rushed the batter. On a hard length, peppered into the surface and angles back in from around off. Shivam Dube is late to play at it and gets an inside edge onto the pads.

Good length on the pads, worked away through the square leg region for a single now.

FOUR! Down the wrong line and Sanju Samson uses those wrists well. Full and shaping into the pads, Samson flicks it well to the left of the short fine leg fielder and the ball rolls away into the fence.

Slower and shorter, just outside off. Samson waits back before hopping away and angling it to the right of deep third for a single.

Another slower one, into the pitch and over middle. Dube sets up for the pull but is early into his swing and gets an under edge into the leg side for just another single. 

Fullish length, angled across off, Dube leans on to make a block.

Ghazanfar drags the length back a touch and bowls it straighter. Dube clips it through square leg and turns the strike over.

SIX! That's begging to be hit. AM Ghazanfar goes short and tries to cramp the batter by darting it in. Sanju Samson has enough time to pick it up and he whacks the pull over deep square leg for a six.

Flatter delivery on the stumps, pushed through a bit fuller, Samson punches it down to long on for a run.

Bowled from around the wicket to the left-hander, full and outside off. Dube caresses the ball through wide mid off for one more.

Floated up on off, a bit fuller and this one goes away from the right-hander. Sanju eases it between point and cover and picks up a single. 10 easy runs off the over.

FOUR! Swept and swept well. Flighted ball on off, turning away, Sarfaraz Khan lunges ahead, takes the front leg out and drags the sweep aerially towards the left of deep square leg for a boundary.

FOUR! Up and away again. Dragged down by Santner, angled into the batter. Khan goes deep in the crease, backs away and heaves the pull high and to the left of the deep mid-wicket fielder for another boundary.

Pushed through flatter around off, Sarfaraz hangs back, plays it late and dabs it down to short third.

OUT! TIMBER! A clever bit of bowling from Mitchell Santner. Mitch slows it up and tosses it a bit higher. The ball lands around middle stump. Sarfaraz Khan goes down to sweep again but plays all around it. The ball turns away a bit and bounces over the willow to hit the top of the stumps and CSK lose their second wicket inside the Powerplay, 72/2 now.

Santner takes a leaf out of Krunal Pandya's book now. He comes over the wicket and bangs it in quick and short on off. Shivam Dube swats the pull down to deep mid-wicket for one.

Ends well, does Santner. Fuller in length, drifted in towards middle and leg. Samson shows the full face of the blade and punches it straight back as Mitch makes a stop to his right on the follow-through. CSK end the Powerplay at 73/2.

 FOUR! Insult to the bowler! Bumrah pushes it fuller, on middle and off. Sarfaraz Khan prods forward, presents straight bat face and lofts it cleanly over the bowler and picks up his first boundary.

Short of a good length, just outside off. Khan covers the stumps and plays it very late, running it fine to deep third's left for a single.

 SIX! Dismissed out of his presence! Jasprit goes into the pitch with an off cutter, short on middle. Sanju Samson waits for the ball to come and then dumps it behind deep backward square leg with a pull shot.

On a hard length, outside off, skidding through. Sanju Samson tries to play the square cut off the back foot, but gets a thick outside edge and it runs to deep third for a run.

 A projectile from Bumrah! Pinpoint yorker on middle with a hint of tail to the leg stump. Sarfaraz Khan does just well enough to squeeze it out.

Tries another yorker on the stumps, but it ends up as a low full toss. Sarfaraz Khan goes for the flick, but it goes off the toe end through deep fine leg for a single. 13 runs from Bumrah's second.

Full and on middle. Samson plays from the crease and blocks it to mid on.

Good length, on off, Sanju pushes it to mid on.

 FOUR! Runs away! Hardik bowls it short and down leg. Sanju Samson stands deep in the crease and with just a little prod forward, he tries to pull it. Gets it off the gloves and the ball runs between the keeper and short fine leg to the fence.

 SIX! Nonchalance from Samson! Full from Hardik, drifting on the pads. Sanju Samson needs no second invitation as he picks it up nicely and whips it behind deep square leg for a six.

 FOUR! Quite deliberate! Hard length, around off. Sanju Samson gets on the toes, opens the face of the blade and literally steers the ball to the right of deep slip, where Jasprit Bumrah dives to his right, but cannot stop it. A boundary for Samson.

WIDE! Slower off cutter, dug short and over the head height of the batter. Sanju Samson climbs the imaginary ladder to ramp it behind, but misses to connect. Quinton de Kock leaps to collect it behind. Hardik looks keen to send it for a review for caught behind, but QDK looks unsure and they decide not to challenge it. UltraEdge shows a flat line later.

 FOUR! Yes, it does and that's delicacy at its very best! Around the off stump, on a length. Sanju Samson stays put, lets the ball come at him and pins the ball between short third and backward point for a boundary. Another expensive over from Hardik. 50 UP FOR CSK!

Starts from over the stump. Full, flat, around off, drifting away. Gaikwad gets forward and eases it to cover-point.

 FOUR! What a beautiful touch! Slides on the middle stump on a length. Ruturaj Gaikwad plays from the crease and wrists it to the mid-wicket gap and finds the fence.

Too full, on middle, Gaikwad lunges ahead and flicks it wide of mid-wicket for a single.

Touch short, on the leg stump. Sanju Samson goes on the back foot and nudges it to the square leg fielder. Sherfane Rutherford dives to his left but fails to stop it cleanly. Parries the ball behind to deep mid-wicket's right for a single.

The leg break, on a length, outside off. Ruturaj Gaikwad lets the ball grip and then gently dabs it to backward point.

OUT! MISTIMED AND GONE! Another Powerplay dismissal for the CSK skipper. AM Ghazanfar's dream run continues in this IPL. Ghazanfar floats one up full on leg stump, inviting the drive. Gaikwad clears out to the leg side and goes for the big hit down the ground, but the timing is all wrong and the ball balloons straight up into the air to long off. Tilak runs to his right and takes a safe catch. Gaikwad walks off after a promising start. CSK's coach, Stephen Fleming, has a blank look in the dugout. Chennai Super Kings are 32/1.

On a touch fuller length, swinging away, outside off. Ruturaj Gaikwad stays put and square cuts it to deep backward point for a couple of runs. The CSK captain is off the mark.

Back of a length, curving away a bit, on off. Ruturaj Gaikwad plays off the back foot and defends it back to Hardik.

NO BALL, FOUR! Forced away! Hardik oversteps and dishes out a length ball, around off. The ball swings away but it doesn't rise much. Ruturaj Gaikwad plays off the back foot and heaves it to the right of the mid-wicket fielder and picks up his first boundary. Free Hit coming up...

WIDE! Reload! Shapes away, and breaches the guideline, outside off. Ruturaj Gaikwad reaches out to play the drive but misses to connect. 

 FOUR! Off the edge! Overpitched delivery, moving away from the off pole. Ruturaj Gaikwad tries to play the straight drive, but adjusts to it by opening the bat face at the last second deliberately. It goes off the outside edge and shoots between the first slip and short third for a boundary.

 SIX! Gaikwad shows the urgency! Hardik goes short and angling it on the leg stump. The ball arrives at shoulder height and Gaikwad uses the pace to pull it behind to deep fine leg for a six.

Nagging length, around off, shaping away. Gaikwad taps it to the cover region.

Around the pads, on a length. Samson uses his wrists to flick it to the deep square leg region for a single. A very profitable over for the Super Kings. 19 runs from it.

Bumrah starts on the money! Angles it into the batter from over the stump. On a good length on middle. Sanju Samson presses back and bunts it down the pitch watchfully.

Sloppy in the field! Some outswing on a fuller length, outside off. Sanju Samson crisply drives it to Sherfane Rutherford at cover-point who collects the ball and releases a high throw towards Quinton de Kock. The keeper jumps, but it stays out of his reach and rolls to the fine leg region. They cross.

On a back of a length, around off, Gaikwad leans forward and drives it straight to the cover fielder.

Ouch! That's straight on the helmet. Short of a good length, with an extra zip and bounce on it. Ruturaj Gaikwad goes for the pull shot off the back foot but is undone by the excessive lift and is hit on the helmet grill. The ball then rolls through backward square leg and they get a leg bye.

At 137.9 kph, this is bashed hard on a length, on top of middle. Sanju Samson lets the ball slant into him and blocks it back to Bumrah.

 FOUR! Picks the gap with a quality stroke! Just a little bit of an away shape, outside the off stump, full in length. Sanju Samson gets on the front foot, finds the middle and pins it through the cover and point gap for a crisp boundary. Oh, hang on! The siren goes off as Bumrah has overstepped. No Ball called and Free Hit to follow.

A perfect way to get out of the Free Hit, unscathed. Bumrah nails the yorker on the middle stump. Sanju Samson's head falls over as he looks to flick, but misses. The ball deflects off the pads to the backward point region. Bumrah, cheekily walks back and signals that it was plumb in front. So 7 from the opening over.
