IND vs NZ: Incessant rain causes washout on Day 1 of first Test in Bengaluru, gives Shubman Gill another day to recover

Highlights:

Toss could not take place on Day 1 of the first Test.

The drainage at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium is rateed world-class.

The Day 1 of the first Test of the three-Test series between India and New Zealand at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru was washed out without a ball being bowled. The toss is yet to take place which means Shubman Gill will have time to recover before the playing XI for the first Test is announced. 

It started drizzling in Bengaluru in the morning and the rain got heavier as the day progressed. The rain stopped a few times only to return later, eventually causing a washout.

The weather forecast does not look promising for the rest of the four days either. India’s World Test Championship (WTC) final plans may take a hit if the first Test ends in a draw. 

Toss time for Day 2

The toss will take place at 8:45 AM, 15 minutes earlier on Day 2 if the rain does not play spoilsport. The first ball of the Test will be bowled at 9:15 AM if the conditions are ideal.Karnataka Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda on October 15 issued an Orange alert. The heavy rain forecast led to Gowda deployment of National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force personnel in the city. Also, Gowda said that Fire and Emergency Service are on standby for immediate response.

 

"I have advised BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike to be on high alert. We have already deployed about 60 NDRF/SDRF personnel in Bengaluru and redeploying another 40 to be on stand by for any necessity. We have put Fire and Emergency Services on stand by for immediate response," the Minister said in a statement.
