Rohit Sharma refused to overreact after India's Test series loss against New Zealand

India lost to New Zealand by 113 runs in the second Test to eventually lose the series

India captain Rohit Sharma didn't overreact after has team's Test series loss to New Zealand in Pune. Despite the disappointing 113-run defeat against New Zealand in the second Test in Pune, which ended India's 18-match unbeaten streak at home, Rohit Sharma has ruled out the need for a detailed post-mortem analysis.

The crushing defeat in the second Test was certainly a big loss for India by all means, who had last lost a home series in 2012. However, the India skipper believes that the team's performance was not drastically flawed and that minor adjustments, rather than wholesale changes, are necessary to address the shortcomings.

'I don’t want to doubt anyone’s potential': Rohit Sharma

In the post-match press conference, Rohit set to records straight and said that the recent series loss won't decide India's fate as 18-match winning streak means the team has done a lot of things right over the time.

“It has happened in the last two Test matches, we’ve won 18 consecutive series at home which means we’ve done a lot of things right. We’ve performed well exceptionally over the past number of years. Hence, I won’t go too much deep into it and that we’ve messed up a lot. I think 2-3 innings we’ve underperformed with the bat but it happens when you’re performing consistently for so long, you come under a loss,” said Rohit in the post-match press conference.

“I don’t want to doubt anyone’s potential. These guys have helped us remain unbeaten at home for so long and hence I don’t want to do any postmortem. But we can see what we can do to come out of such situations and batters should come out with trust in their plan. New Zealand batters also showed that if you put bowlers under pressure things will happen in your favour,” he added.

India faced a daunting task on the third day of the second Test against New Zealand. Chasing a mammoth target of 359 runs, India's batting lineup crumbled under the pressure of the New Zealand bowlers. Only Yashasvi Jaiswal showed some resistance with a well-paced 77 runs. However, the rest of the Indian batting failed to deliver, resulting in a 113-run defeat.
