Virat Kohli gets run out in the third Test.

Ravi Shastri slams Kohli for the dismissal.

Virat Kohli was criticized by former India head coach Ravi Shastri for wasting his wicket in the Mumbai Test match against New Zealand. While batting in the last few minutes of the first day, Kohli was dismissed while attempting to catch a fast single off Rachin Ravindra at mid-on.

Shastri blasted the former India captain, saying that Kohli threw his wicket away in the Test match after he had only batted five balls and had risked falling short of his crease when taking on Matt Henry. After an amazing collapse that saw India fall from 78/1 to 86/4 at the close of the day's play, Kohli's wicket was the fourth of the Indian innings.

"What a waste of a wicket. Don't know what was going through his mind," Ravi Shastri said while commentating on the game.

Virat Kohli was upset with himself for making a poor decision. At the fag end of the play on Friday, November 1, Matt Henry delivered a direct hit, catching him short at the non-striker's end. Before being run out, Kohli hit four runs off of six balls. India lost three wickets in eight deliveries after reaching 78 for one in 17.1 overs. India remained 149 runs down after finishing Day 1 at 86 for four.

Having only amassed 92 runs from five innings at an average of 16.40, Kohli has not had the best series performance to date. Kohli has not looked well, with the exception of his 70-run performance in the second innings of the first Test match in Bengaluru. The Black Caps were previously bowled out for 235 in 65.4 overs by India. After taking out Will Young, Tom Blundell, Glenn Phillips, Ish Sodhi, and Matt Henry, Ravindra Jadeja amassed a five-wicket haul. In the current three-match Test series, Washington Sundar became the leading wicket-taker with four scalps.
