Rishabh Pant got injured during India vs New Zealand 1st Test.

Dhruv Jurel is keeping wickets in place of injured Rishabh Pant.

India wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant got injured in the first Test match against New Zealand. While keeping wickets on Day 2, he was hit on his kneecap on the same leg for which he underwent surgery following his road accident and taking him off the field was a precautionary measure.

Pant was struck on his right knee, leading to his exit from the field during the 37th over. A delivery from Ravindra Jadeja turned, kept slightly low, and hit Pant on the leg where he had previously undergone surgery. Pant was replaced by Dhruv Jurel.

Will Jurel bat in place of Pant?

During 2018, there was a big change in the rules of Test cricket. According to the new rule, if a wicketkeeper gets injured during a Test match, then the umpire allows a substitute player to come on the field considering his injury. Because of this rule, Dhruv Jurel is handling wicketkeeping in place of Pant. But the substitute player cannot play the role of a captain and bowler. He can only play the role of a wicketkeeper. Due to this, if Pant is not fit till India's second innings, then Dhruv Jurel cannot bat in his place.

Rohit Sharma on Rishabh Pant's injury

After the India vs New Zealand day 2 play, Indian captain Rohit Sharma revealed that he got an injury on the same leg on which he had had surgery.

"Yeah, unfortunately, the ball hit straight on his kneecap. The same leg on which he has had surgery. So he has got a little bit of swelling on it."

"Muscles are tender at this point. So it is a precautionary measure. You know, he has gone through a massive surgery on that particular leg. So that was the reason for him to go inside. Hopefully, he can recover," he added.

Rishabh Pant is missing Day 3 as well and the BCCI medical team is monitoring him closely. Dhruv Jurel is stationed behind the wickets in place of the injured Rishabh.
