It’s turning out to be a day to remember for cricketing fatality as Ajaz Patel became just the third player in the history of the game to pick-up 10 wickets in an innings. The piece of history though has been overshadowed by India’s performance with the ball as India are on front foot. After bowling out India for 325 runs, New Zealand got off to a worse possible start with 38 for 6 at Tea break and were bowled out for 62.
Ajaz Patel became just the third player after Jim Laker and Anil Kumble to pick up 10 wickets in an innings. He was running the show with his left-arm orthodox spin and took six wickets to play an important part in bowling India out. However it is Virat Kohli’s men who are on the front foot having dismissed New Zealand for just 62 runs in their first innings.
So far on the day, 16 wickets have fallen with final session in progress. India opener Mayank Agarwal scored 150 before he was dismissed by Ajaz. He was instrumental in getting India to 325 and put up a respectable total for the hosts. But it was the Indian bowlers who are steering India to a win in the Mumbai Test.
As things stand this is New Zealand’s lowest score against India with 62, while their previous lowest score against India was 94 in 2002 at Hamilton. This also the lowest score in an innings by any team on Indian soil. India have avoided giving follow-on to New Zealand and have taken a 263-run lead going into the second innings.
