The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on January 17 (Tuesday) announced that star middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out from the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand. Iyer has picked up a back injury and will head to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru to start the recovery process. Madhya Pradesh and Royal Challengers Bangalore's batter Rajat Patidar has been named as a replacement for Iyer.
“Team India batter Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the upcoming 3-match ODI series against New Zealand due to a back injury. He will be heading to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for further assessment and management,” BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said in a release.
"The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Rajat Patidar as replacement for Shreyas Iyer," the release added.
