The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is going on in full force in Pakistan, with the Multan Sultans topping the table of the eighth edition of the competition. However, during the mega event in Pakistan, news reports emerged of eight security cameras, generator batteries, and fibre cables being stolen from inside the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
The cameras were a key part of the stadium's security systems and were reportedly worth millions of rupees. CCTV footage from outside the stadium has captured the thieves making their escape with the stolen goods. Two cases have been registered against the alleged perpetrators at the Gulberg Police Station, where the theft is currently under investigation. No arrests have been made yet and an official statement from the investigating officers is still pending.
Lahore is a part of Punjab in Pakistan, with the government of that region at loggerheads with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Both the governing bodies are in a dispute over which party is supposed to take up the security expenses of the PSL.
Hence, because of this ongoing debate, the future of the matches that were to be held in Lahore and Rawalpindi remains uncertain. Despite the Punjab government reducing their security fund demands from Rs 450 million to Rs 250 million, the PCB has decided to stick to their decision to not pay the amount required to the caretaker government.
Former PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja has praised the PCB's stance on this issue. He has asserted that the PCB should not assume the responsibility of others. It is the obligation of the Punjab government to provide the necessary funds and ensure the security of the stadia. He further emphasized that the cricket board would be pushed to the brink of bankruptcy if they had to bear the cost of security expenses.
