The current Test series between Australia and Pakistan holds significant sentimental value for David Warner, as it marks the final Test of his competitive career. Warner will no longer participate in the International format for Test and ODI cricket. However, just before his last Test match, Warner found his backpack containing his special Baggy Green cap missing from the team's hotel. However, after days-long search the Australian opener's backpack was mysteriously found at Sydney hotel, where the team is putting up.
Australia's star southpaw finally reunited with his baggy green cap four days following its misplacement during transit from Melbourne to Sydney. Currently participating in his final Test match at the SCG, Warner expressed his joy by sharing a video on Instagram about the incident. Warner stated,"I am pleased and relieved to have my baggy back in my hands. Any cricketer knows how special their cap is, and I will cherish this for the rest of my life. It's a load off my shoulders going into the last couple of days, so I really appreciate it. Thank you all".
The recovery of Warner's lost baggy green cap was shrouded in mystery. According to a spokesperson from Cricket Australia (CA), Warner's backpack, complete with all its contents, was eventually found in the team hotel. However, the circumstances of how it ended up there remain unclear.
“The bag in which they were packed was found at the team hotel, with all contents inside,” the CA spokesperson said.
Earlier, Warner had taken to social media to announce that his backpack, containing his baggy green, had been stolen while in transit from Melbourne to Sydney ahead of the third Test against Pakistan. He had placed his baggy green in a backpack within an Australian cricket suitcase en route to Sydney. When the bag was missing from the luggage, Warner made an appeal on social media to help find his treasured baggy green.
The hunt for Warner's lost baggy green cap triggered a widespread search across Australia and even garnered attention from Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. The Prime Minister joined in, urging the return of the retiring Test cricketer’s cherished item.
“I do hope if it hasn’t happened already, whoever knows anything about the missing hat (returns it soon). Dave Warner has represented Australia on more than 100 occasions, the baggy green hat belongs to him and it should be returned,” Mr. Albanese said in a press conference on Wednesday morning.
