Australian captain Pat Cummins delivered a memorable response to Mohammad Hafeez, Pakistan's Director of Cricket, following Hafeez's claim that Pakistan played 'better cricket' in spite of their loss in the Boxing Day Test. Hafeez, expressing a bold perspective, had remarked that despite making several mistakes, his team was the superior side in the Melbourne match.

"We played better cricket as a team. I'm proud of that. The way the team had the courage to attack this game in the best possible way. If I sum up the game, the Pakistan team played better than the other team in general," Hafeez said in the press conference.

"Our batting intent was better, and while bowling, we were hitting the right areas. Yes, we made some mistakes that cost us the game but as a team I believe that there were a lot of positives, enough to win the game but unfortunately at the end we didn't win the game," he further added.

Cummins, with a smile on his face, said "Ahh... cool. They played well."

"It doesn't really matter, does it? It's the team who wins at the end," he added.

This interaction occurred in the backdrop of Australia's decisive 79-run win in the Boxing Day Test, which earned them an unassailable 2-0 series lead. Cummins' response highlighted his leadership qualities and the remarkable achievements of the Australian cricket team under his captaincy.

2023 saw Cummins adding another accolade to his impressive resume: yet another Test series victory as captain, along with securing a second 10-wicket match haul in Test cricket. With significant victories such as a World Test Championship, a World Cup, and the Ashes under his belt, Cummins has played a pivotal role in re-establishing Australia as a dominant force in international cricket.

The debate following the match also ventured into the realm of technology's role in cricket, particularly the Decision Review System (DRS). Hafeez criticized the system, deeming it inconsistent, especially in light of Mohammad Rizwan's dismissal in the match. Rizwan's out decision, which he contested as he believed the ball had hit his forearm and not the glove, was a crucial moment in the game. Hafeez went as far as to label the DRS a "curse" on the sport.

In the face of these criticisms, Cummins stood firm in his support for technological aids in cricket. He suggested that while there might be occasional inconsistencies, decisions generally even out over time. His composed and pragmatic approach to the controversy has been well-received, garnering appreciation for his ability to focus on performance and results, steering clear of being entangled in contentious debates.

Cummins' handling of the situation not only reflects his tactical acumen but also underscores his capability to maintain composure and perspective, qualities essential for a successful leader in the high-pressure world of international cricket.
