Australia announce 13-man T20I squad for Pakistan series, captain yet to be named in Mitchell Marsh's absence due to Border-Gavaskar Trophy

There are a few contenders to lead Australia in the 13-man squad.

Australia have picked a second-string squad for three-T20I series against Pakistan.

Cricket Australia (CA) have picked a 13-member squad for the T20I series against Pakistan next month. In Mitchell Marsh’s absence, Australia are yet to name the captain of the side. A second-string squad has been picked for the home T20I series against Pakistan as senior players will be busy preparing for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. 

Glenn Maxwell, Josh Inglis, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa are few contenders for the captaincy role. Meanwhile, pacers Xavier Bartlett, Specher Johnson and Nathan Ellis have returned to the squad after recovering from their respective injuries.

Pakistan have named a new white-ball captain as well. Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan will lead Pakistan in both formats. Also, senior players Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah have returned to the squad after getting rested for two Tests against England in the home series.

Pakistan have a slightly upper hand in T20Is against Australia. Pakistan have won 13 out of 25 games including a super over encounter whereas one ended in no result. 

This will be the first T20I Pakistan will play on Australian soil after five years. Pakistan have never won a T20I on Australian soil. Australia have played four T20Is at home against Pakistan and won three whereas one ended in no result.
