PCB is all set to appoint Pakistan Team's new white-ball captain as the top post is yet to be filled since Babar Azam stepped down from the top post.

Mohammad Rizwan to become Pakistan's white-ball captain?

Following Pakistan's disappointing performance at the 2023 ODI World Cup, the team in all likelihood has decided to appoint Mohammad Rizwan as the new captain for both T20I and ODI formats, as per a report in Geo News. This decision comes as a surprise to many, as Shaheen Afridi was expected to take over the captaincy role. Shaheen Afridi was previously appointed as the T20I captain but was removed from the position after a short stint. Babar Azam then resumed his captaincy duties and led the team in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where Pakistan failed to advance to the knockout stage.

Pakistan's upcoming ODI series will mark the return of the format after a significant hiatus. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed Mohammad Rizwan as the new captain for the white-ball teams. It is reported that the decision to appoint Rizwan was influenced by the suggestion of former head coach Gary Kirsten. The selectors have endorsed this choice, making Rizwan the official captain for both ODI and T20I formats.

Pakistan is set to tour Australia for a series comprising three ODIs and three T20Is. The team will aim to build on their recent success, particularly their dominant series win against England. The ODI series will take place between November 4th and 10th, followed by the T20I series from November 14 to November 18.

Pakistan's emphatic Test series-win over England

Pakistan's recent series victory over England in Rawalpindi, where they secured nine-wicket win over the visitors, has boosted their confidence and will serve as a positive momentum for the upcoming tour of Australia.

England's tour of Pakistan began with a promising victory but has since been overshadowed by Pakistan's strong performance. Pakistan made a stunning comeback after their first Test defeat in Multan and then went on to win the final two to eventually seal the series. As Pakistan prepare for their next Test series against South Africa in December, the selectors will face the decision of whether to retain the current squad or make changes. The inclusion of key players like Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi in the Test squad remains uncertain.
