International Cricket Council (ICC) has released the latest standings for the World Test Championships (WTC) 2023 after Pakistan’s victory over Bangladesh. The latest standings are sorted by the percentage of points picked up by the teams. Sri Lanka top the rankings with a 100 percent record followed by Pakistan, while India occupy the third spot.

The Day 5 of the Chattogram Test proved decisive as Pakistan claimed an eight-wicket victory over Bangladesh. Babar Azam’s side initially trailed in the match but made sure they got over the line to claim all the 12 points available. India’s inability to win the Kanpur Test coupled with Pakistan’s win saw the latter jump one place in terms of the percentage of points earned. A team earns 100 percent points for a win, 50 percent points for a tie, 33.33 percent points for a draw and no points are awarded for a loss.

India’s draw against New Zealand meant the runners-up from the last edition picked four points to add to the tally. India currently has 30 points from five matches. Rahul Dravid-coached team has played the most games during the present cycle of the WTC (five). It is worth noting that India has earned more points than any other side. But with just 50 percent points picked up, Virat Kohli’s men are third in the standings.

The standings are determined by the percentage of points earned by the teams. Sri Lanka’s recent win against West Indies meant they have a 100 percent point record. In terms of points, a team gets 12 points for a win, six points for a tie, four-point for a draw and no points are awarded in case of a loss. As per the percentage of points earned, defending champions New Zealand sit fifth in the table having picked their first points of the cycle after the dramatic conclusion to the Kanpur Test. Bangladesh remain the only side yet to get off the mark.
