Pakistan's cricket team has been facing scrutiny over its fielding performances, with recent lapses in the field drawing criticism from fans and analysts alike. This was highlighted in the first T20I against New Zealand in Auckland when Pakistan's Babar Azam missed a crucial catch. During the game, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson offered a simple chance to Babar at mid-on off Abbas Afridi's bowling. However, Babar misjudged the catch, allowing New Zealand to capitalize on the missed opportunity.

Meanwhile, New Zealand demonstrated a remarkable batting display, setting a new T20I record against Pakistan by amassing an impressive total of 226/8 in their 20 overs. This achievement surpassed their previous highest score of 196/5 against Pakistan, recorded in Wellington in January 2016.

The match commenced with New Zealand batting first on a pitch conducive to scoring. Despite an early setback with the dismissal of Devon Conway by Pakistan's Shaheen Afridi, New Zealand quickly regained momentum. Finn Allen spearheaded the recovery with a 24-run over against Afridi, pushing the score to 56 for 2 at the end of the powerplay. Allen's swift 35 from 15 balls set the stage for further exploits.

The innings was further bolstered by significant contributions from Kane Williamson, who crafted a well-composed 57 runs off 42 balls, and Daryl Mitchell, who added a dynamic 61 runs from 27 deliveries. Glenn Phillips also played a crucial cameo, scoring 19 runs off 11 balls.

The final flourish came from Mark Chapman, who unleashed a flurry of runs, scoring 26 off just 11 balls, including some powerful hitting. This late assault helped New Zealand comfortably cross the 200-run mark.

On the bowling front, Abbas Afridi, debuting for Pakistan, managed to pick up three wickets but conceded 34 runs in his spell. His effort, however, was overshadowed by the missed opportunities in the field, which became a point of concern for Pakistan as they faced a formidable total set by New Zealand.
