Michael Klinger is a right-handed batsman from South Australia. He joined the state for the 2008-09 season and was named its captain in 2010. Before that he represented the Victoria. He has also captained the Australia Under-19 team.

Klinger began as an 18-year-old in 1998-99 and in the 2000-01 season, he hit a brilliant 99 not out which was followed by a controversial decision by then captain Paul Reiffel to close the innings. He then returned to Victoria for the 2005-06 season. Klinger’s first-class form dropped soon after hitting a couple of centuries. He finished the 2006-07 season on a high and became a permanent fixture with Victoria.

The moment Klinger joined the Redbacks, he saw immediate success. His maiden century came in his first game against Victoria. Later that season, he scored his maiden double hundred against Western Australia. In December 2008, he hit an unbeaten 133 off just 128 balls that helped his team clinch victory against Tasmania.

Klinger was bought by the now defunct Kochi Tuskers Kerala for IPL 4 in 2011.
