Current Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 finalist with Gujarat Titans, (GT) Wriddhiman Saha has courted another controversy after he reportedly left the official WhatsApp group of the Bengal cricket team on Wednesday (May 26) night. The Indian wicketkeeper, who also keeps for his state team, is upset with the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) management. Sources say that Saha felt insulted after a top CAB office-bearer allegedly questioned him about loyalty toward his team.
Refusing to comment on the matter, CAB president Avishek Dalmiya said, “any discussion that happens between a player and an organization is strictly between that player and the organization.”
Speculation has been rife on whether Saha will be available for Bengal’s knockout match against Jharkhand in the Ranji trophy next month. Sources say Saha had asked for NOC from the CAB to not represent Bengal at the Ranjis but the management insisted on his participation.
Saha was last seen at the Eden Gardens on Tuesday when he took part in IPL playoff between the Titans and Rajasthan Royals (RR). While interacting with the media ahead of the match, the wicketkeeper-batter said that Motera and not Eden Garden was his home ground now.
According to reports, Bengal coach Arun Lal persuaded Saha to reconsider his decision; however, the ice did not melt. Sources say Wriddhiman has stated that he wants a formal apology from the official in question.
