Ishant and Navdeep set to miss first Ranji Trophy match for Delhi; Yash Dhull expected to be seen in a new role

Indian pacer Ishant Sharma who was initially not a part of the squad announced by the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) selection panel for the upcoming edition of Ranji trophy has now made up his mind to feature in the Ranji Trophy matches, keeping his hopes alive to be selected for one of the Test matches against Sri Lanka. 

 

Upcoming Test matches

It is important to mention here that Indian and Sri Lankan team will face each other in two Test matches. The first match of the series will take place on March 4, in Mohali. The second and final match of the Test series is slated to take place in Bengaluru, on March 12. The two teams will also face each other in a three-match T20I series. 

 

It is being understood that the 33-year-old Indian pacer has informed the team management regarding his decision to play in Ranji Trophy.

 

Ishant's message

A source in DDCA told Sports Tak that Ishant has informed the management that he will play Ranji Trophy matches and he is reaching today Guwahati and since he is reaching today so he will have to undergo the required quarantine protocols as per the rules set by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). And this further means that he is set to miss the first match.

 

Apart from Ishant, another Indian bowler, Navdeep Saini is also set to miss the first match as he did not inform the DDCA regarding when he will reach. According to the source, they are expecting Saini in a day or two to reach Guwahati. He was in bio-bubble so he will be in quarantine, the source further added.

 

When asked about their possible opening pair, the source opined that they are thinking to have Under 19 World Cup-winning captain Yash dhull along with Dhruv Shorey, as their two opening batsmen.
