Ranji Trophy: Abdul Samad scores century off 68 balls but fails to break Rishabh Pant's record

After a two-year long hiatus Ranji trophy has eventually kicked off and with the advent of it many young and talented cricketers of India started showcasing their supreme talent and some of them even went on to the extent of creating multiple world records as well.

 

Samad's century

On the first day of the Ranji Trophy season 2021-22, eleven batsmen scored centuries. Abdul Samad, who is playing for the Jammu and Kashmir team, recorded a destructive innings. He scored the second-fastest century in the history of Ranji Trophy. He scored the century off just 68 balls. Samad played an innings of 103 runs in the Ranji Trophy match and his innings was comprised of 19 boundaries and two sixes.

 

Indian team's wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant currently holds the record of fastest century scored in Ranji Trophy.

 

For the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) franchise had decided to retain this player for Rs 4 crore. 

 

In the first match of Elite Group C, currently being played in Chennai against Puducherry, the batsmen of Jammu and Kashmir played a terrific innings. 

 

Samad's all-round abilities

Puducherry scored 343 runs in the first innings and their batter Paras Dogra played a superb innings as he scored a ton (108 runs off 187 balls). Later, their wicketkeeper S Karthik scored 63 runs off 131 balls.  

For Jammu and Kashmir, Adbul Samad picked up a wicket conceding 29 runs in 6 overs.

 

In reply, Jammu and Kashmir made a huge score of 400 runs losing 8 wickets in the first innings (update till lunch break). Abdul Samad smashed Puducherry bowlers and hit 19 boundaries and 2 sixes.

 

Samad completed his century off just 68 balls during his innings and scored the second-fastest century in the history of this tournament.

 

Indian wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant scored the fastest century in the Ranji Trophy as he had scored the ton off just 48 balls against Jharkhand in 2016. Pant eventually registered a quick-fire 135 runs off 67 balls. In that innings, he had smashed hit 8 fours and 14 sixes.
