India U-19 World Cup-winning captain Yash Dhull could not have asked for a better start to his first-class career after he hit centuries in both innings on Ranji Trophy debut. Dhull became only the third cricketer to score a century in each innings (113 & 113 not out) on Ranji Trophy debut.
Previously, Nari Contractor for Gujarat back in 1952-53 season and Virag Awate for Maharashtra in 2012-13 season, managed to achieve this amazing feat.
Memorable debut
On his Ranji Trophy, Dhull had scored 113 runs in the first innings and 113 runs (not out) in the second innings, against Tamil Nadu, at the Baraspara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.
In the second innings, Dhull had smashed 14 boundaries and one six and he was nicely supported by the other opening batter Dhruv Shorey. Dhurv remained not out on 107 runs off 165 balls. Delhi reached a total of 228 runs without losing a wicket. The match eventually resulted in a draw but Tamil Nadu clinched three points as they had secured a lead in the first innings.
Earlier, in the first innings, the U-19 World Cup-winning skipper bagged 18 boundaries to score 113 runs off 150 balls. Dhull seemed to be in a ruthless form in first innings as he smashed 16 boundaries in his innings to notch his century. The Delhi-born opening batter secured his half century off just 59 balls, with 10 boundaries in his kitty.
At the recently-concluded mega auction for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 edition, Dhull was roped in by the Delhi Capitals (DC) franchise for an amount of Rs 50 lakh.
Eventually, Dhull got dismissed in the first innings as Tamil Nadu’s 30-year-old medium pacer M Mohammed picked the crucial wicket of Dhull.
Another key player
Later, Lalit Yadav played a terrific innings of 177 runs off 287 deliveries for the Delhi team. His innings was comprised of 17 boundaries and 10 sixes. He reached both his 50 and hundred with a six. In the upcoming edition of the IPL 2022, the Najafgarh-born all-rounder will be seen playing for the Delhi Capitals (DC) franchise.
Ultimately, Delhi managed to reach a huge total of 452 runs in first innings.
In reply, for Tamil Nadu, Baba Indrajith (117 runs off 149 balls) and Shahrukh Khan (194 runs off 148 balls) displayed terrific batting skills to help their side in reaching a total of 494 runs.
