Ranji Trophy: U-19 World Cup-winning captain Yash Dhull in Delhi's squad as Kerala picks Sreesanth

The stage is set for the Ranji Trophy to take place finally and most of the teams have also started announcing name of their players who will feature in the event. Delhi (Delhi Ranji Team) and Kerala (Kerala Ranji Team) announced their respective teams recently.

 

Under-19 World Cup-winning captain Yash Dhull has got a place in Delhi's team but fast bowler Ishant Sharma, who has played more than 100 Tests for the Indian team, will not be a part of the Delhi team in the upcoming edition of the Ranji season.

 

 

Sreesanth in the squad

On the other hand, the Kerala team have given four players a chance to make their debut. Fast bowler S Sreesanth is one of the most notable players to be a part of the squad. 

 

Under the leadership of Yash Dhull, India had recently won the U-19 World Cup title by defeating England in the Under-19 World Cup final played in West Indies. Indian team have won the Under-19 World Cup titles most number of times (five times), so far. Out of the five titles claimed by Indian team, three champion teams have been captained by a Delhi player. 

 

However, Dhull has not played a first-class match at the Under-19 level yet.

 

 

Ishant unavailable

At the same time, Ishant Sharma, who seems to be moving away from the future plans of the Indian team, has told DDCA President Rohan Jaitley that he is not available for this season of Ranji Trophy. 

 

The captain of the Delhi team will be left-arm fast bowler Pradeep Sangwan. Indian fast bowler Navdeep Saini is also a part of the Delhi team.

 

On the other hand, Kerala also announced their team for the upcoming season of Ranji Trophy. 39-year-old fast bowler S Sreesanth has got a place in the 20-man team. Earlier, Sreesanth had also registered himself for the mega auction for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 to be held on February 12 and 13, in Bengaluru.  

 

Sachin Baby will be the leader of the Kerala team.
