India's star batter Prithvi Shaw talked about his comeback to competitive cricket following a prolonged injury after he cracked a brilliant century in the Chhatisgarh on February 9. Prithvi Shaw expressed uncertainty about his return and admitted to feeling a sense of unfamiliarity when he resumed batting.
After a six-month hiatus due to a knee injury sustained during his stint with Northamptonshire in county cricket, Prithvi Shaw finally returned to action. His absence from the Indian cricket scene led to a considerable break from the sport.
Prithvi is back with a bang
Despite a modest outing in his first match against Bengal, where he managed just 35 runs, Prithvi ran riot with the bat and scored a phenomenal century in his next game against Chhattisgarh. Prithvi whacked a remarkable 159 runs off 185 balls, including 18 boundaries and three sixes. His exceptional innings not only propelled the team to a dominant position but also served as a personal triumph, alleviating any lingering doubts about his form.
Prithvi opens up on his mental struggles
Reflecting on his journey, Prithvi Shaw initially questioned whether he could stage a successful comeback. However, as he spent more time at the crease, he gradually regained his rhythm and confidence. In an interview with Indian Express following his impressive knock against Chhattisgarh, he elaborated on his experiences.
“I wanted to do well but somewhere I wondered whether I would be able to bat in my style or not. Kaise kheloonga (how will I play), when I would make a comeback and whether it will be on a good note or not. These were the thoughts that were going around. But after I stayed for a few hours, things became normal,” Prithvi said, as quotes by Cricketaddictor.
I wasn’t nervous but the feeling was a bit ajeeb: Prithvi Shaw
Prithvi added that he was nervous when he resumed his batting but he was confident of doing well and had a belief of doing well. He also added that he isn’t focussing on the future as he wants to give his best for the team.
“I wasn’t nervous but the feeling was a bit ajeeb (strange) when I resumed my batting. However, I did a match simulation and was motivating myself that everything will be fine. My body language was fine. I’m not thinking too far off and want to stay in the present," he added.
“There is no expectation, I’m happy that I’m back playing cricket. I have just come back after injury and just want to give my best. My aim is to win the Ranji Trophy for Mumbai and I’m trying to achieve that by contributing as much as I can going ahead,” the star Mumbai batter concluded.
Prithvi's aim now is to consistently contribute runs for his team and reclaim his position in the Indian national squad. The upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 will be crucial for him to solidify his comeback into the national team.
