Sher-e-Punjab T20 Cup: MI batter singlehandedly leads Stallions to victory as RCB bowler's team falters again

Mumbai Indians (MI) youngster Nehal Wadhera, who had his breakout season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 campaign, smashed 66 runs in 48 balls as the Trindent Stallions beat the Hampton Falcons by seven wickets in Mohali on Thursday, July 20. Hitting the ball at a strike rate of 137.50 with nine fours to his name, he helped his team chase down 165 in 18.1 overs.

The Falcons struck early in the game, with opener Vihaan Malhotra being sent back to the pavilion by Kawalpreet Singh after scoring just seven runs in as many balls. Then Shivein Rakheja forged a partnership of 99 runs in 58 balls with Wadhera, as the two batters carried their team closer to victory.

While Wadhera did most of the leg work, an impressive 38 runs in just 14 balls in the death overs from Gaurav Choudhary played a crucial role in helping the Stallions chase down the target with 11 balls to spare. Siddarth Kaul, who played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL, was very expensive. He failed to take a single wicket and also conceded 31 runs in 3.1 overs in the process.

Earlier, Anmolpreet Singh smashed an unbeaten 53 runs in 36 balls to take his team to a total of 164 runs. Openers Prabhjot Singh and Anshul Chaudhary gave their team a solid start which Anmolpreet then built upon. In the middle Pukhraj Mann and Kawalpreet Singh were poor, before Aryan Sharma added 22 runs in 15 balls as well.

In the other game of the day, the Agri Knights Kings beat the Royal Phantoms by 15 runs. After the Knights scored 172 in the first innings, the Phantoms were unable to chase down this target, scoring 157 runs in their stipulated 20 overs.
