BCCI announces ODI squad for South Africa series, RCB explosive batter earns maiden call-up alongside Mukesh Kumar

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced India's ODI squad for the three-ODI series against South Africa. The second-string squad will be led by Shikhar Dhawan. Rajat Patidar and Mukesh Kumar have received their maiden ODI call-up. 
 

Patidar performed well in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) followed by Ranji Trophy and unofficial Test series against New Zealand A. Mukesh, who made headlines with a fifer against New Zealand A in the first unofficial Test has been picked in the side as well.

 

Patidar has scored 1,462 runs from 44 List A innings at an average of 34.80 including three centuries and five half-centuries. On the other hand, Mukesh has 17 wickets from 18 games at an average of 44 and an economy rate of 5.17 runs per over.

 

The ODI series will begin on October 6 at Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow. The series will go on till October 11 when Dhawan-led side play the Proteas at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi.

 

The senior players of the side will be missing as they will travel for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia starting October 16. India will start their campaign against Pakistan on October 23. Before the high-octane clash, they will face New Zealand and Australia in warm-up games.
