Indian women's cricket team picked up a famous win under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur as they defeated South Africa women by 10 wickets in the one-off Test which was being played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, on July 1 (Monday). Sneh Rana was awarded with the Player of the Match award for her 10 wickets across two innings, which also included an astonishing 8-wicket haul.
Sneh Rana creates history
The star spinner Sneh Rana became the first Indian women bowler to take a 10-wicket haul in a Test match. She also became the second Indian women's bowler to take an 8-wicket haul in a single innings. After the match, she also said how people would stop underestimating off-spinners now.
“Feeling great to contribute for my team. Amazing feeling, I don't have words to describe my feeling. My body is very fresh (chuckles). It was difficult initially for the spinners as there was no turn on offer. Later on, there was turn and bounce. I want to give credit to the SA batters who batted really well. Hats off to the Indian players. Playing Test match cricket is special and to be the Player of the Match is unbelievable. People think it's easy to play off-spinners but they'll think otherwise after today,” Sneh Rana said in the post-match presentation.
India beat SA by 10 wickets
Team India posted 603 runs in the first inning with the help of Shafali Verma's double ton and Smriti Mandhana's century. Then bowled out SA on 266 runs in the first innings with the help of Rana's 8-fer. Then they put SA through follow-on. Laura Wolvaardt AND Sune Luus smashed amazing centuries and led the Proteas' fight back. They helped SA get over India's lead but it was not enough to stop India from winning. Indian spinners counter-attacked and this time restricted SA on 373. India only had a target of 37 runs that Indian openers Shafali Verma and Shubha Satheesh chased down by the 9.2 overs in the final session of the final day.
