Indian team had to suffer a huge setback after their opening batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the Indian T20I team due to a wrist injury, on February 26 (Saturday).
New player added
This means Gaikwad will not be available for the remaining two T20I matches to be played on February 26 (Saturday) and February 27 (Sunday) against Sri Lanka, in Dharamsala. And in a major development, Indian batter Mayank Agarwal has been added to the Indian team by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
A BCCI source, while talking to Sports Tak, said that Mayank Agarwal has reached Dharamsala at a very short notice. Ruturaj Gaikwad could not play the first T20I match which was held in Lucknow. Gaikwad was not available because of his wrist injury. And now he has been dropped from the team and the medical team of BCCI will be closely monitoring the situation.
Injury concerns
It is important to mention that Gaikwad has become the third player to be ruled out from the T20 team due to injury.
Earlier, Indian bowler Deepak Chahar and middle-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav were ruled out of the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. Both these players got injured during a T20I match against West Indies in Kolkata.
Apart from this, former Indian skipper Virat Kohli, wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant and all-rounder Shardul Thakur have been rested.
In the first match of the T20I series, India scored 199 runs losing two wickets in 20 overs. In reply, the visitors could only manage to reach a total of 137 runs losing 6 wickets and eventually the hosts secured a comfortable 62-run victory.
After the completion of the T20I series, India and Sri Lanka will face each other in a two-match Test series.
