Dushmantha Chameera becomes most successful bowler against Rohit Sharma in T20Is

Sri Lankan speedster Dushmantha Chameera has become the most successful bowler against Indian T20I skipper Rohit Sharma. Chameera dismissed Rohit for the fifth time in the format. He surpassed New Zealand pacer Tim Southee, who had dismissed Rohit four times in T20Is.

Rohit got out in the first over of the run chase as a good length delivery hit his bat and then hit his stumps. The delivery from Chameera was slightly short and Rohit looked to guide it towards third man but lost his wicket instead. He got out after scoring just a single off two deliveries.

To play maiden IPL season

Chameera bowled two overs in the powerplay overs and conceded 13 runs. The 30-year-old was recently roped in by new Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for Rs 2 crore after a mini-bidding war with Royal Challengers Bangalore. It will be Chameera’s maiden IPL season. He will play under the leadership of KL Rahul.

Fielding record for Rohit

Rohit lost his wicket early but became the joint-most capped player in T20I cricket alongside Pakistan veteran Shoaib Malik. The second T20I is Rohit’s 124th appearance in the format on international stage. The 34-year-old also became the first Indian fielder to take 50 catches in T20Is. Rohit achieved the feat in the 15th over of Sri Lanka innings with Dinesh Chandimal’s catch. He joined Malik in this list as well and is third on the list, only behind South Africa’s David Miller (69) and New Zealand’s Martin Guptill (64).

Earlier this week, Rohit became the leading run-scorer in T20Is as he went past Kiwi opener Guptill and former Indian skipper Virat Kohli on the list. Currently, Rohit has 3,308 runs from 116 innings at an average of 32.75 including four centuries and 26 half-centuries. He has most centuries in the format.
