Indian team under the leadership of Rohit Sharma will take on Sri Lanka in the second Test match of the series on March 12, in Bengaluru. In a situation like this, Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is on the cusp of achieving a remarkable Test milestone as the Indian team face Sri Lanka in the pink-ball Test in Bengaluru. It is important to mention that the Indian all-rounder recently became world's top-ranked all-rounder.
Multiple records
The Indian all-rounder currently has 241 wickets in Test cricket and he will need nine more wickets in the second Test match against Sri Lanka in order to become the third-quickest Indian to claim 250 Test wickets. The pink-ball Test against Sri Lanka is going to be Jadeja’s 59th Test match.
Previously, Ravichandran Ashwin became the quickest to pick up his 250th Test wicket in 45 Test matches. Legendary spinner Anil Kumble is at the second spot in the list as he bagged 250 Test wickets in 55 Test matches. Bishan Singh Bedi (60 Tests), Harbhajan Singh (61 Tests), and Kapil Dev (65 Tests) are the next three names on the list.
Fifth Indian player
On the other hand, Jadeja will become the fifth Indian player to pick up 250 Test wickets and score 2000 or more Test runs. Previously, Kapil Dev, Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh and Ravichandran Ashwin achieved this terrific feat.
In Bengaluru, Jadeja has scalped 17 wickets at a strike rate of 20.60 and an average of 8.88, in three matches. His tally of 17 wickets is the third-most for him at any particular venue.
In the first Test match of the series, played in Mohali, the hosts secured a comfortable victory against Sri Lanka as Rohit Sharma’s men registered a win by an innings and 222 runs. In the first innings, Jadeja played an amazing knock of 175 runs (not out) off 228 balls. In the bowling department he did a terrific job as well as he picked up five wickets to bundle out the opposition within a total of just 174 runs.
In the second innings, things were not much different, as the all-rounder claimed 4 more wickets to restrict Sri Lanka within a paltry total of 178 runs.
The second and final Test match of the series is going to be a pink-ball affair and is slated to start from March 12 (Saturday).
