Indian team set to script an amazing T20I record as they face Sri Lanka in 3rd T20I

Indian T20I team under the leadership of Rohit Sharma will achieve an amazing T20I record if they manage to win the third T20I of the series against Sri Lanka on February 27 (Sunday). Indian T20 team have already 39 T20I matches at home and they are at the top spot along with New Zealand in the list of most wins by a team in T20Is (at home). So a victory against Sri Lanka in the third T20I match, scheduled to be played in Dharamsala, on February 27 (Sunday), will help them in overtaking New Zealand in the list of most wins by a team in T20Is (at home).

 

Overtaking New Zealand

New Zealand currently have 39 wins from 73 games as Indian team on the other hand, won the same number of matches in 60 games. The third on the list are South Africa, with 37 T20I victories out of 70 matches, followed by West Indies and Australia with 32 and 31 wins respectively.

 

Apart from this, Indian T20I team will look to create another record as a victory in the third T20I match will help them in winning 12 consecutive T20I matches. It is important to mention that just two more cricket teams have as many consecutive wins in the shortest format of the game and they are Afghanistan and Romania.

 

Records for Rohit

Apart from Indian team’s records, skipper Rohit Sharma achieved one terrific record as well. After Indian team’s victory in the second T20I match against Sri Lanka, Rohit became the most successful T20I skipper at home. Rohit, till now, has led the Indian team to 16 victories out of 17 matches. 

 

In the second T20I of the three-match series against Sri Lanka, the Rohit Sharma-led side secured a victory by 7 wickets.

 

Batting first, the visitors registered a total of 183 runs losing five wickets in 20 overs. In reply, the Indian team chased down the target in 17.1 overs. Indian batter Shreyas Iyer played a terrific innings (74 runs off 44 balls) to help his side in claiming the victory.

 

Previously, in the first T20I of the series, the hosts secured a convincing victory by 62 runs.
