Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has become the leading run-scorer in T20Is. Rohit achieved the feat in the first T20I of the three-T20I series against Sri Lanka. He surpassed former Indian skipper Virat Kohli and New Zealand opener Martin Guptill to climb to the top.

Guptill has 3,299 runs from 112 games at an average of 32.66 including two centuries and 20 half-centuries. He is followed by Virat Kohli, who is not a part of the T20I squad as he has been rested ahead of the Test series against Sri Lanka. Kohli has played just 97 games and scored 3,296 runs at average of 51.50 including 30 half-centuries (most by any batter in the format).

Rohit has 3,307 runs from 123 games at an average of 33.07 including four centuries and 26 half-centuries in the format. He has the most number of centuries in T20Is.

Rohit scored 44 runs from 32 deliveries including two fours and one six. He was dismissed by Lahiru Kumara as he misjudged a slower delivery that kept low. Before getting out in the fifth ball of the 12th over, he shared a 111-run partnership with Ishan Kishan. Building on a good start, India posted 199/2 on the board. Kishan scored a record-breaking 89 whereas Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten for 57.

Before the game, Rohit needed 37 runs to rise from the third spot to top. After stepping on the field at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow, he also came one step closer to surpass Pakistan veteran Shoaib Malik on the list of most T20I appearances.
