In a major turn of events in the Wriddhiman Saha-journo row, the former has decided not to disclose the journalist's name who disrespected and threatened him by threat-laced texts for snubbing interview. However, BCCI has decided to look into the matter and take action against the culprit but Saha said that he has not received any message from the cricket board as yet and even if they ask him, he will not reveal the journalist's name citing that his doesn't want to ruin anyone's career.
Team India Test wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha had exposed a noted journalist for sending him threat-laced texts over an Interview snub.
“I haven’t received any communication from the BCCI yet. If they ask me to reveal the name (of the journalist), I would tell them it was never my intention to harm somebody’s career, to pull a person down. That’s why I didn’t reveal the name in my tweet. That’s not the teaching of my parents. The main purpose of my tweet was to expose the fact that there’s someone in the media who does such things, disrespecting a player’s wish,” Saha told The Indian Express.
The wicketkeeper-batter explained that he made the matter public with his tweet as he didn’t want the other players to face such things.
“It wasn’t fair, which I wanted to tell through my tweets. He who has done it knows it very well. I posted those tweets because I didn’t want the players to face such things. I wanted to convey the message that what has been done was wrong and no one else should do it again,” he further added.
Earlier, the former India head coach Ravi Shastri urged BCCI's president Sourav Ganguly to look into the matter. Shastri along with some cricketers extended his support to the the 37-year-old wicketkeeper batter and called it 'Blatant position abuse'.
“Shocking a player being threatened by a journo. Blatant position abuse. Something that’s happening too frequently with #TeamIndia. Time for the BCCI PREZ to dive in. Find out who the person is in the interest of every cricketer. This is serious coming from ultimate team man WS,” Shastri tweeted.
Following Shastri's tweet BCCI finally dived into the matter. BCCI's treasurer Arun Dhumal earlier said that they will ask Wriddhiman about the tweet and try to know the background and context of it.
"Yes, we will ask Wriddhiman about his tweet and what is the real incident that has happened. We need to know if he was threatened and also the background and context of his tweet. I can't say anything more. The secretary (Jay Shah) will certainly speak to Wriddhiman," Dhumal said on Monday (February 21).
The entire Saha-journo row started right after Wriddhiman's snub from India's Test squad for the Sri Lanka home series.
Meanwhile, the former India bowler Venkatesh Prasad also shared his opinion on Wriddhiman's Twitter incident while taking a dig at the Indian players. The cricket fraternity has come out in support of the cricketer over the entire incident.
Taking to Twitter Venkatesh Prasad wrote that it is important for players to be aware of whom they should be close to and should have a clear boundary. While taking a dig at some top players he said that some players have lacked that sense just because they love doing buttering.
“It is equally important for players who give these kind of brash journalist a platform & unnecessary access to have better sense of who to be close to and have a clear boundary. I am afraid some top players have lacked that sense just because they enjoy the buttering,” Prasad tweeted.
