Suryakumar Yadav ruled out of T20I series against Sri Lanka due to injury

Indian team under the leadership of Rohit Sharma will take on Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series scheduled to start on February 24 (Thursday) in Lucknow. But ahead of the Sri Lanka series, Indian team will have to face some injury issues as middle order batsman Suryakumar Yadav has now been ruled out of the upcoming T20I series. The 31-year-old batsman suffered a hairline fracture during a fielding attempt in the third and final T20I against the West Indies in Kolkata.

It is important to mention that Yadav was spotted at India's practice session in Lucknow on Tuesday (February 24).

Yadav uncertain

It still has to be ascertained that how Yadav was injured but it is believed that during the third T20I match against West Indies, on February 20, the Indian middle order batter got injured while he was fielding.

Previously, Indian fast-bowling all-rounder Deepak Chahar sustained a right quadriceps injury during bowling.

The injury took place in the third over of West Indies batting. Chahar pulled off from his delivery stride and clutched his hamstring. Eventually, Chahar had to walk off the field and Venkatesh Iyer completed his over.

Both Suryakumar and Chahar will now head to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for further management of their injuries.

A good show

In the recently concluded T20I and ODI series, the hosts displayed a dominating show as they whitewashed West Indies. In the three-match ODI series, played in Ahmedabad, Rohit Sharma’s men secured a 3-0 victory. Later, in the T20I series, played in Kolkata’s Eden Gardens, the results were not much different as the visitors once again had to suffer an excruciating 3-0 defeat.

The first T20I between India and Sri Lanka will take place in Lucknow, on February 24. The remaining two T20I matches will be played at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala on February 26 and 27.

After the completion of the T20I series, the Rohit Sharma-led Indian Test team will take on Sri Lanka in a two-match Test series. The Test series will start on March 4, in Mohali.
