You are free to ask for break if you feel exhausted; BCCI's offer for Indian team

The Covid-19 pandemic has already taken a huge toll on mental health and there has been no exception in sports fraternity as multiple sports personalities in recent times have opted for a break. Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli and India wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant recently were given rest and they did not play in the final T20I match against West Indies. The duo of Kohli and Pant will not be seen in action against Sri Lanka in the upcoming three-match T20I series as well.

BCCI's stand

In a situation like this, a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) official in a conversation with Sports Tak spoke on this matter and said, “Indian cricket team playing constant cricket and it has been going much busier in coming days so break from bubble is required.”

“Players are in competitive cricket and they're playing constant cricket so break from bubble is much required and as and when they want they can take break, we have already told the players.

“See injuries you can't avoid, it comes with play but yes, if you need to take break, if you feel exhausted you are free to ask for break, it will be given for sure,” the BCCI official further added.

Upcoming series

Previously, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant were rested for the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. But later, in a major development, Indian middle order batsman Suryakumar Yadav and all-rounder Deepak Chahar were also ruled out of the T20I series against Sri Lanka.

31-year-old batsman, Suryakumar suffered a hairline fracture during a fielding attempt in the third and final T20I against the West Indies in Kolkata.

On the other hand, Indian fast-bowling all-rounder Deepak Chahar sustained a right quadriceps injury during bowling.

Both Suryakumar and Chahar will now be heading to the National Cricket Academy (NCA), in Bengaluru for further assessment of their injuries.

After the completion of the T20I series, India and Sri Lanka will take on each other in a two-match Test series. The Test series will start from March 4, in Mohali and the final Test match will be played in Bengaluru on March 12.
