Less than a week after being included in India's squad for the ODI series against Sri Lanka, ace paceman Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the upcoming white-ball series, Sports Tak has learned. Bumrah has not reached Guwahati, the city that will host the first ODI on January 10 (Tuesday). The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) doesn't want to rush Bumrah back into the national setup with multiple big-ticket bilateral and multinational tournaments scheduled to be played in 2023.
"BCCI has taken the call not to rush with (Jasprit) Bumrah as we need him fit for major tournaments which are planned this year," a source told Sports Tak on the condition of anonymity.
On January 03, the BCCI released a statement and said, "The All-India Senior Selection Committee has included pacer Jasprit Bumrah in India’s ODI squad for the upcoming Mastercard 3-match ODI series against Sri Lanka."
"Bumrah was out of cricketing action since September 2022 and was also ruled out of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup due to a back injury. The pacer has undergone rehabilitation and has been declared fit by the National Cricket Academy (NCA). He will be joining the Team India ODI squad soon,” the media advisory released by BCCI secretary Jay Shah further read.
India's pace spearhead last featured for the Men in Blues in the T20Is series against Australia at home back in September in 2022. Struggling with the stress fracture in his back, Bumrah was also ruled out of the marquee T20 World Cup 2022.
