‘Don’t spoil his game…': Gautam Gambhir's ‘time to put him in Tests’ tweet for Suryakumar receives strong flak

After witnessing Suryakumar Yadav's success in T20Is, some cricket pundits were seen demanding the flamboyant batter to feature in the longest format of the game. Suryakumar's charismatic batting was once again on display when he cracked a blistering century which propelled India to a convincing 91-run victory over Sri Lanka in the third T20I in Rajkot on Saturday (January 7). Riding on an emphatic win in the third T20I, India clinched the three-match series 2-1.

The 32-year-old struck 51-ball 112 in which he hammered nine sixes and seven fours to bring his third century in the slam bang cricket.

Meanwhile, former India star batter Gautam Gambhir took to Twitter and while lauding Suryakumar's heroics at Rajkot backed him to feature in the Tests.
"What a knock @surya_14kumar! Time to put him in test cricket! #SKYscraper," Gambhir said in his tweet.

Gambhir might not have sensed that his tweet is going to spark a huge debate on twitter. Moments later Indian cricket fans army took over Gambhir's tweet and launched a debate amongst themselves. While some were seen supporting Gambhir, others were seen questioning him.

One of the users tweeted, “ Absolutely disagree . dont spoil his game by burdening him . Next its time for him to concentrate in ODI . His next goal should be ODI world cup”.

Another user called for Sarfaraz Khan's inclusion instead of Suryakumar. Sarfaraz recently played an incredible knock of 162 off 220 for Mumbai against Tamil Nadu during the Group B match of the Ranji Trophy at the Brabourne Stadium.

He tweeted," Expected better from you Gauti. Why does he make the team team? What about those who have been scoring runs in Ranji cricket. Sarfaraz for example? Not setting the right example if you pick someone based on white ball form for a completely different game".

Meanwhile, another user wrote," Why? He should focus on white ball and win more matches for India".

Meanwhile, a user with a handle BrahmanVP was seen supporting Gambhir's tweet as he tweeted,"Yeah 👍 Surya Kumar can do wonders in Tests too...Fastest century...fastest double ton...will try to chase any target on the last sessions of the test match too!!🎯...will be quite interesting ✍️".

Riding on a scintillating century Suryakumar also joined the elite list of just five international batters who have scored three or more centuries in the format. The list is led by Rohit Sharma with a total of fours tons, followed by Australia's Glenn Maxwell, New Zealand's Colin Munro, Czech Republic's Sabawoon Davizi, and Suryakumar with three centuries each.
