Shubman Gill continued his fine run in the ODI series against Sri Lanka after completing his second century in the 50-over format during the third match between the two teams at the Greenfield International Stadium in Trivandrum on Sunday, January 15. It was a well-worked century by the opener, who high-fived his batting partner Virat Kohli while completing the run that gave him a century. Gill took 89 balls to complete his ton as India were cruising with the scoreline reading 202/1.

The stylish right-handed batter went on to score 116 runs off 97 balls before getting bamboozled by Kasun Rajitha's slower delivery. During his imperious knock, Gill smashed 14 fours and two sixes.

After Gill partnered skipper Rohit Sharma to a 143-run partnership in the first ODI of the series, where he scored 70 runs himself, the duo were at it again, with a 95-run partnership, before Rohit lost his wicket for 42 runs. Gill continued the onslaught with Kohli, as the two batters took the Sri Lanka bowlers to the cleaners. The duo stitched a fantastic partnership of 131 runs for the second wicket.

After the conclusion of India's innings, Gill reflected on his knock and revealed what it is like to bat alongside Kohli.

"Felt very good. Always good when you convert a start into a big one," Gill told host broadcasters, Star Sports.

"We were not really looking at any target, just tried to see how the wicket plays. The odd ball was keeping low but apart from that, it is a very nice wicket. When you are batting with someone like Rohit Bhai or Virat Bhai, you don't have to do much. We were just talking about whom to target and when to target. We didn't score much in the first few overs, so then we discussed on scoring faster.

"He (Kohli) is amazing, I remember watching him as a kid and it feels great to share the crease with him today," he added.

Gill has enjoyed a sensational start to his ODI career. The right-handed batter has amassed 894 runs in 18 innings for the Men in Blue, which is most by any batter after player 20 knocks for India.
