In a crucial match for the Northern Warriors, Mathews showcased his skills in a dramatic fashion. Although he was dismissed for a duck, he had a significant impact with the ball in the final over. With 19 runs to defend, Mathews delivered under pressure by dismissing the Samp Army captain, Moeen Ali, for 37 runs and subsequently took down the tail-enders, achieving a last-over hat-trick.

Initially overlooked for Sri Lanka's World Cup squad, Mathews found his way back into the team as an injury substitute. During the World Cup, he unintentionally created a memorable moment by becoming the first batsman in international cricket to be given out for being timed out. Now, Matthews has made headlines once again, but this time, for all the good reasons.

This remarkable performance was supported by former Indian and Karnataka fast bowler Abhimanyu Mithun. Mithun made a substantial impact in the sixth over of the chase, claiming the wickets of Jason Holder and Karim Janat, which left the Samp Army reeling at 46 for 5. This put the Samp Army under immense pressure with a steep required run rate of 14.5.

The Northern Warriors' batting innings, which initially struggled to gain momentum, received a significant boost from Colin Munro. Coming in at number 5, Munro unleashed an explosive batting display, hammering an unbeaten 36 off just 15 balls. His innings included two fours and three consecutive sixes in the ninth over, which crucially accelerated the team's run rate.

James Neesham also played a key role in the Northern Warriors' triumph. His contribution with the bat, scoring 12 off 7 balls, and his economical bowling spell, where he took 2 wickets for 19 runs, were instrumental in securing the victory.

Mathews' exceptional performance in the Abu Dhabi T10, especially his last-over heroics, has reaffirmed his status as a versatile and impactful player in the cricketing arena, capable of influencing the game's outcome with both bat and ball. His continued prominence in the sport, marked by moments of high drama and significant contributions, keeps him in the cricketing spotlight.
