Australia have whitewashed Sri Lanka in the two Test match series defeating Sri Lanka in the second Test by 9 wickets on the strength of Alex Carey and Steve Smith. With this, Australia has ended a 13-year wait. This is Australia's first series win in Sri Lanka since 2011. Australia won the first match of the series by an innings and 242 runs, while it won the second match by 9 wickets.

Stand-in captain Steve Smith and star Alex Carey's tons helped the visitors to win the clash. Carey, who scored 156 runs in the first innings, was the Player of the Match. While Captain Steve Smith, who scored 131 runs in the first innings, was the Player of the Series. Smith scored 272 runs in this entire series. Sri Lanka had given Australia a target of 75 runs in the second Test, which Smith's team achieved at the loss of one wicket.

Sri Lanka's poor batting

The Australian bowlers bowled out Sri Lanka for 231 runs in the second innings on the fourth day, after that the Sri Lankan team could set a target of just 75 runs in front of the visiting team, which Australia achieved easily. Sri Lanka was able to score only 257 runs in the first innings. After which Australia scored 414 runs thanks to Carey and Smith's centuries and took a strong lead of 157 runs in the first innings.

After this, the Australian bowlers did not give Sri Lanka a chance to make a comeback in the second innings as well and bowled out the host team for 231 runs. Matthew Kuhnemann and Nathan Lyon both took 44 wickets. At the same time, Beau Bevester took two wickets. In response to 75 runs, Travis Head scored 20 runs in the last innings for Australia.
