The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced India's 17-member squad for the one-off way Test against England which is slated to be played from July 1 to July 5 in Birmingham. The played who made the headlines after the announcement of India's Test squad was Cheteshwar Pujara who after being snubbed from the team, proved his mettle with the willow in the County Championship with a stellar show including his two double tons loaded with couple of centuries. In five matches for Sussex, Pujara amassed 720 runs (6, 201 not out, 109, 12, 203, 16, 170 not out).
Apart from him, Shreyas Iyer has also been considered for the imminent rescheduled Test against England. This will be the first time Rohit Sharma will be captaining India in England and much will be expected from him while KL Rahul will be seen in the deputy role.
Also, speedster Prasidh Krishna has been rewarded for his efforts while the pace phenomenon Umran Malik couldn't make it to the Test squad. Many cricket pundits of the likes of legendary Sunil Gavaskar and Kevin Pietersen threw their weight behind Umran to play the Test match in England.
As of now, Rohit Sharma-led side are currently dominating the series 2-1 and have a fair chance of clinching the it after a long time.
Meanwhile, this will also be the first time that India will be playing Ben Stokes' England team after the sacking of former skipper Joe Root. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has gone through an overhaul after their Ashes debacle Down Under and have appointed different people in key positions in their structure. While Ben Stokes has been appointed the captain of the Test side, Brendon McCullum is set to take over as the head coach of the men's Test team, starting from the New Zealand series.
