BCCI has announced the revised schedule for the India tour of Sri Lanka with some big changes. The series will feature three T20Is followed by as many ODIs. The white-ball series, which was scheduled to start from July 26, will now commence from July 27. Which means, the first T20I will be played on 27, second on July 28, and last one one on July 30. Meanwhile, the ODI series, which was earlier slated to start from August 1, will now start from August 2. The second ODI will be played on August 4 and the final one on August 7. Despite the schedule changes, the number of matches and their respective venues have remained unaltered.

As per the reports, with Rohit Sharma unavailable, Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul could be the leading contenders to captain the Indian team. Both players have previous captaincy experience. While Hardik Pandya is the preferred choice for the T20I format, Suryakumar Yadav could potentially step in if Hardik is unavailable. In the ODI format, KL Rahul is the likely captain. However, the final decision rests with the BCCI as no official announcement has been made.
Meanwhile, the series will be Gautam Gambhir's first assignment as India's head coach. Following Rahul Dravid's departure after the T20 World Cup 2024, the BCCI has appointed Gautam Gambhir as the new coach. In Sri Lanka, Chris Silverwood resigned from his coaching role after the multi-nation tournament, and Sanath Jayasuriya has taken over as interim coach. Moreover, Sri Lankan captain Wanindu Hasaranga has stepped down after a disappointing T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and USA.
