The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a windfall on the domestic cricketer on Sunday (April 16) in midst of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. The prize money for all the domestic tournaments has been increased magnanimously.
The winning team of Ranji Trophy will now receive Rs 5 crore, with an increment of Rs 3 crore from the previous winning amount of Rs 2 crore. Meanwhile, the runners-up and losing semifinalist will get Rs 3 crore (up from erstwhile ₹1 crore) and ₹1 crore (+₹50 lakh), respectively.
“I’m pleased to announce an increase in prize money for all @BCCI Domestic Tournaments. We will continue our efforts to invest in Domestic Cricket – which is the backbone of Indian Cricket. Ranji winners to get ₹5 crores (from 2 cr), Sr Women winners ₹50 lacs (from 6 lacs),” BCCI secretary Jay Shah wrote in a tweet.
Also, the winner of the Senior Women’s One Day Trophy will now get Rs 50 lakh, from the present Rs 6 lakh.
Not just this, the cash prize for Irani Cup also has been increased to double, from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 50 lakh. Meanwhile, Irani Cup's runners-up, will now get Rs 25 lakh now as there were no cash prize for them earlier.
The Duleep Trophy winners will receive a cash prize of Rs 1 crore and runners-up team will get Rs 50 lakh while Vijay Hazare Trophy champions will now be getting a cheque of Rs 1 crore and the team finishing second best Rs 50 lakh.
Deodhar Trophy winners are set to get richer by Rs 40 lakh and the losing finalists will get Rs 20 lakh. Similarly, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy champions will be receiving a cheque of Rs 80 lakh and the losing team will get 40 lakh.
In a big boost to women's cricket in the country, the winners of the Senior Women's One Day trophy will get a cheque of Rs 50 lakh and the runners-up side will receive Rs 25 lakh.
The prize money of the senior women's T20 trophy has also been increased with the winners set to get Rs 40 lakh, eight times more than what they get now. The losing team will get Rs 20 lakh.
Earlier in this week, BCCI announced the domestic cricket's schedule for 2023-2024, with the Deodhar Trophy returning after a span of three years. The season with kickstart with Duleep Trophy, the zonal red-ball tournament from June 28 to July 16, before the action shifts to Deodhar Trophy in the zonal format, with six zones competing from July 24 to August 3.
